Walt Disney, the man who created “The Happiest Place On Earth”, aka Disneyland.
This pioneer of cartoon films was born in Hermosa, Illinois in 1901.
He and his brother Roy co-founded Walt Disney Productions.
He did not started off with his iconic Mickey Mouse, in fact his first successful cartoon character is Oswald the Rabbit.
It was his third Mickey Mouse animation which has sound and music, titled “Steamboat Willie” that hit the big time.
Walt himself did the voice of Mickey.
Then he went on to create more successful animated works, including “Silly Symphonies”, “The Three Little Pigs”, “Pinocchio”, “Dumbo”, “Fantasia”, Bambi” , “Treasure Island”, “Alice In The Wonderland”, “Peter Pan” “Sleeping Beauty” and many other amazing animated masterpieces.
He was also one of those who used television as an entertainment medium.
Among his many successful TV shows are “Davy Crockett”, “Zorro” and “The Mickey Mouse Club”.
On July 17, 1955, Disneyland theme park was opened in Anaheim, California.
Today you can find Disneyland in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai, China.
During his lifetime, Walt Disney won 22 Academy Awards.
